welcome to the twin motion webinar my name is Darrell and joining us today we have Martin from the twin motion team we're gonna start with a quick overview of Epic Games unreal studio and twin motion before handing the presentation over to Martin epic games operates as two major divisions publishing and software through its publishing epic games is the creator of the world's most popular game just the last year with a dedicated engineering and support team of 30 in Montreal and this all happened before we added the twin motion team you'll find the enterprise team in the UK Germany us Korea with support for all the most popular VR headsets twin motion can take bhim 2vr in seconds we've had over 7 million downloads of Unreal Engine and 200,000 registrations to the Unreal Studio beta and recently twin motion has had over a hundred thousand downloads visualization experts in architecture have figured out for themselves the value of Unreal Engine unreal studio and twin motion a recent survey by CG architect found that Unreal Engine was the number one real-time solution for production rendering and the number one rendering respondents were experimenting with including traditional and lecture based talks next up is Martin from the twin motion team and he's going to give you a quick intro to the twin motion workflow cheers everybody thank you the real high me Ron my name is Martin crass man I'm witch in motion product specialist I've been working on promotion for around six years now and I just want to say that we are really proud to be joining GP games family and the enterprise team so so let's begin what is twin motion so twin motion is a 3d real-time visualization software dedicated to architecture urban planning landscaping here is a quick comparison of what you can do what you can achieve with tree motion compared to another ray tracing software but when we created three motion our main goal wasn't to create a render rendering software that create renderer our main goal was to create a software that he's really easy to use so we really wanted to step away from the tons of settings that you can find in other rendering software where some time you just tweak one value and render time double or triple the IDB entry motion was to create a plug-and-play solution you install it and you can be productive with straight out of the box so for us that mean create a simple UI with big icons so no matter where you are in the software you can understand you can know what you are doing and also with this idea of having a simple you are a simple workflow we have created what we call the add-ins the add-ins great direct link between the CAD software so today it's for ArchiCAD and Revit and in create a link between those CAD software whispering motion so in just one click you can synchronize your ArchiCAD or Revit file with two in motion and begin to visualize it in real time right away we don't need any more to go through the Xbox import workflow which is really time consuming here just one click press the export the scenes in motion button its enter data inside R in motion during the synchronization we do a few things automatically we'll see that in a moment but for in Revit and ArchiCAD there is native library of materials vegetation characters and during this translation with all those asset I'll automatically replace by tree motion physically correct materials 3d animated trees and animated clip also and then from tree motion it's also just one click away to switch to visual rate so which two in motion we wanted to also to to bring with to already more accessible to every architect so now let's see that in action so really on my left as you can see here I have my Revit file and on the right I have tree motion if I want to visualize this file in three motion I will just click on the see in pin motion button it will start a direct link I actually have the project already set up so here we just open the context where I've imported already a background around this small building so it started synchronization and here we go I already have my project and I can start to navigate in it in real time either walls talking just during the introduction if I if you look at my project here on the background I have two trees during the import during the synchronization we stream ocean those trees has been automatically replaced by two in motion 3d animated trees and we do also the same thing for the cars over here are for the two peoples that you can see on the balcony over here those two people here has been automatically replaced by tree motion 3d animated characters some the background of this project as I told you I've already imported a background this background he has been created with 3ds max let's actually switch fullscreen as we don't need rabbit anymore from now so this context here has been created with 3ds max have imported this context in my in my tree motion project it was just a dot FBX between motion can also support different file format so for example here if I click on the import tab here you can see all the different file that three motions report at the input so if beat Sketchup obg see Ferrari this one being the most optimized and then we have also all this one on the second line here so after importing my contacts I just place a few object like the vehicles here and now I've synchronize my five from Revit directly into my context Frank's thing that I can do is for example staff to change the light play with the time of day so here we can just visualize the project during different lighting condition if I come to the natural section localization here I can also precisely zero localize my project with just an open street map that will load even and what you can do is also come to the localization tab and here change just the orientation of the nerves so as you can see here we already have a couple of three inside run project but we can add more of them so we'd open up two in motion library enter the vegetation and landscape folder trees and here we just start to drag a few tree in my project maybe I can also select those one that are a bit bigger I can also do a multi selection so for example if I select this black gun and this book tone at each time I will click in the viewport in motion will randomly select one object from my selection at you and it will add it to my project and because it's in the tree folder it will take a random rotation and the handle scale so free UN senior pitch finally another way to add some vegetation is using the vegetation the vegetation tool so we'll come to the natural dark vegetation here we'll select my grass and I will just have to paint my grass on my terrain so those materials here are a bit bright maybe it's time to change those I will come back to my library enter the material folder here we have different type of folder of type of material treated and dedicated to Architecture we start with the glass if I want to change this meta it just a basic drag-and-drop from the library to my viewport as you can see when you mouse over a material there is the small term ball and there is a bigger preview on the right so now I just change for example this material on my walls here switched wood paneling you can just drag-and-drop multi immutable material until I found one that should my project here we can maybe change to scale I'll just change the reflection of its same thing on my roof here I will just come to the metal folder and just maybe drag some allocable panels like here as you can see here all those material are pretty details they are physically correct it means there are PBR materials next thing I want to show you is actually on others our projects we just come here on my open recent file and just switch to the Norway demoscene this project the Norway project is just a big house in Norway it's bit eaten in the forest just to show you the terrain and the wall ecosystem that we have inside the software so we are just open up this new project over here or first thing I want to show you is the terrain so here we have a terrain created directly inside in motion you can find those terrain in the vegetation and landscape folder landscape you can start with a flat terrain or with a terrain already modeled the roti grassland and then when you click on the terrain you will have some different tool to customize this terrain so it start with the sculpt tool here we can just raise the geometry with the with the raised option we can just quickly create some elevation around your project then we also of course at the dig tool to dig some hole or we even have the flatten tool that allows you to flatten different area around your project as you can see here on the edges depending on the condition of the geometry different materials automatically apply if I come back in my breadcrumb over here and enter the paint option I can also manually paint different materials on my project so for example here we select my grass 0 4 and I will just paint my grass on my terrain same thing as I did before now if I want to add some grass to my terrain I will come back to my vegetation tool select my grass maybe I can change the geometry and I can just paint my grass on my terrain like that now into motion everything that you can see on the screen from the grass the trees to the different materials everything react to an ecosystem again I will come back in my bread crumb here and now enter the weather option here we have two slider the first one is controlling the cloud coverage so if I start to drag the slider here more cloud will appear the second slider he is controlling the season so we start in the summer and if I start to drag the slider here all my trees will switch to autumn in autumn as you can see here our leaves start to fall from the tree leaves actually turn yellow turn red and if I keep move this slider we quickly switch in winter in winter some some tree completely lost their lives while some other their lives gets overlaid by snow all the material also get overlaid by snow depending on the inclination of the geometry so you see there won't be any snow underneath different object and here even the river completely froze now if I come back to my first slider and start to drag again this one more cloud again will appear and at some point it will snow because we are in winter of course that means that if I switch back from winter to autumn Trump ratio will get warmer and the snow will automatically turn into rain and this rain effect automatically all the material of the project there is nothing to do for that it's completely automatic so now maybe it's time to create media to create a first image so I just find a good point of view to my project like that and now I will come to the media section and I will start with an image to create a new image it's very simple you have the big plus button create images will create a new point of view in the scene I can of course just change the position of the camera and adjust my point of view here with the time option I can just change the time of day and visualize my project during different lighting conditions I will stick with something just in the beginning of the afternoon like that now on each image there is some advanced option I will click on the more over here and here I have access to all the different option for this specific image so it start with the camera settings here I can start to correct the vertical of my project with the perspective correction option I can change the focal of my camera so actually let me just move back my camera a bit so we can see the world project the wall house and again I will refresh my point of view to keep the changes going back here or there is the output side by default in motion export on a 2k resolution but you can go up to 8k with this option and if you click on the more you can also manually go up to 8k and you can actually manually type anything you want from a square ratio to already widescreen next thing we have all the localization the weather the lighting that you can customize for each individual images we can also use some default fields so you can add some some blur to your image something like that so you can just just play with that a bit and then at the end we have the different visual effects it start with the color gradient for example here we have different color gradient that you can apply to your project once you find one that suits your need you can also play with it you can change the contrast of it you can change the saturation if you want after all those colored radium there is some filter that are a bit more artistic like the 8-bit blueprints there is the line the black line outline there is that is etching that looks a bit like a sketches so we have different type of filters like that and finally we are also declare render the clear render I put an overlay on all the material of your project you can change the color of this overall as so you can switch from this gray material like that for example we can change the translucency of this clear render and you can also select what is affected by this clear render so for example here I can disable the clear render on the glass and on the water so here I can still see all my reflection on my water and I can still see through my project I can even disable the clear render on the vegetation if I want let's actually disable this clear render for now I will come back here the point of view is finds maybe it's time to actually export an image to export an image in motion I will just come to this icon here it's the export icon I will come to the image section and select just the image U of I we just created together I'll click on start exports send this to my desktop by default in motion export on as I told you on a 2k resolution but you can go up to a kit as you saw it just took me a couple of seconds to generate this image on a 2k resolution going back to tree motion one of the media that you can create with tree motion is what we call the B motion actually when you entry motion when you enter this a B motion you will create a starting point and a B motion it's actually a dot exe file a standalone viewer of the project that does not require in motion it's a digital model that you can send whoever you want just double click on the exit file it will start the project at the starting point you have define here and it will launch actually the project in this full-screen mode like that in this full-screen mode here you still have a few option in this full-screen mode here it's without all the editing tools that you have inside in motion it has a simple UI but it contains still a few option if I open button here at the end of my screen we can hear a change for example the time of day we can change also the months to visualize different lighting condition during the whole year you can also call the different media you have setup and visualize them and it's rebase achill II the final model that you can send to your client so it can immerse himself into his product also if you have a VR headset plugged in your computer is just one click to switch to the actual reality and in virtual reality we'll have the same kind of option you will be able to change the time change or weather the season you even have the option to change material directly immerse inside your project in via let's keep this full screen mode and enter my project first thing that I want to do here you just change a bit the time of this so we can have some light coming inside your project so we have been talking about quite a few features now but I didn't explain a bit how the interface of promotion work so let's go over that now so to emotion UI consists of three major panel the first one on the left is the library it is native of 3 motion and in contain more than 2000 items and materials so as I show you before it start with the materials so here we have I don't remember we have hundreds and hundreds of materials directly inside in motion created and dedicated to architecture if you want to change the material it just a basic dragon rock from the library to the viewport as simple as that all the material and simple as that after all the materials so as you can see there is plenty of different type of material from concrete to wool stones break roof covering grids we have everything that you can need for an architectural project after the materials we have vegetation its art with landscape will recess so that we have the trees we have plenty of different type of trees from leafy to palm to to Montaigne trees some spruce etc then we have bushes plenty of different one as well we have some grass and flowers we have some rocks the misc section contain the edges the dead leaves and branches some Ivy as well after all the vegetation we have furnitures it start with all in almonds / room living room kitchen living room its / types so chairs electronics plants if I enter Chelsea I will have all the living room shares but if I come at the top of my library I can also use the search bar here I can just type chair and I can visualize just all my chair like that absurd interior there is the exterior furniture with all the benches bowl out planter of the sign of other roads then we have primitive just to block out around your project if you need to there is some decals mostly for road marking like you can see here some zebras some line masking some parking spots we are also some graffiti with some asphalt damaged stains just to give more rallies to the different type of roads you can create then we have some tactical system like the one you can see on the background also all the fireplace as you can see here after the furniture we have the light light we have four different type of light it start with an omnidirectional light here we have different type of option changing the reflection changing the color of the light changing the intensity of the radius we have spotlight neon light we have also the us light so when you have when you add a new s light to your project you just change a few things like that you can in the mo of this option here you can load your custom US profile so you can create your custom US light directly inside each in motion after all the light we have characters and vehicle we will see that in a third project which is better suited to show you those option yeah I can show you also the volume it start with the section volume the section volume allows you to cut through part of the project like I'm doing here so we are just cut this corner of my project I can just scale that to cut to my wall project if I want to adjust to just for example see through the different floors of your project you can just cut through the different the different geometry you can change the color of the cut you can change the thickness of this cut you can even invert the selection so here I can just show what is inside my cutting bowl after all the section tool there is a section volume there is the water volume if you have a swimming pool there is some sound that you may see on the background so he have couple of sound around my project with some birds with some some water flowing in the project and finally the last volume is the reflection crop basically the reflection probe trades in nice reflection around your project it will create actually a 360 image from this point in the space and it will act it will and apply this 360 texture to all the geometry within the radius basically create a nice reflection as you can see here finally after the volume we have what we call the user library do use our library allow you to create your own material to import your own object and save there directly in your user library to have access to those objects for every future project so let's actually create a new material together so I will switch here to the material single to the full list of material that is applied inside my project to create a new material I will click on this plus button here just apply this material directly to my ground over here I will start to load texture so here I have wood packet texture that looks pretty nice but right now it just did diffuse texture with no reflection so we'll come back here and turn my reflection option and here I will load a roughness map I can also play with this roughness roughness map to just give a bit bit more room to to Street to give them a bit more reflection give my material bit more reflection and we can also if I want to can just load a normal map I know there is one in this folder as well so here just loading my normal map and applying my normal map to my project to my material so my material start to look nice now if I want to save this material to my user library I will just click on this treated button and actually let me rename it lets you run for example and I will just right click here and click on add to user library this will save this material in my library and I will have access to this matter for every future project so now if I open up my library I scroll to the bottom here I have my materials and he actually have plenty of different system object that I've created that I've imported myself and just save them here for every future project here you can create your or your own error key so for example here I've created my own materials folder aware created different types of material like my wool here and here it's the same as the library if you want to apply different matter just to drag and drop from the library through your project so this is the library it's the first main panel of King motion interface the second most important panel is the one at the bottom of the screen it's what we call the doc it's basically here that you will find all the option the tools and the settings so for example here my my pocket is still selected so I have a fiction regarding this specific material so as you saw as before I can change the reflection of my material change the color change the scale of my pocket but if I switch to another option for example if I switch to the lighting option of course I will have different type of option here I can change the send power understand the ambient lighting I can change the white balance of my project so yeah as I said here you will find most of the tools in the ocean finally the fuel most important panel is the one on the right it's what we call the same graph to send organizer it's basically here that you will find all the option the tools and the settings it's particular layer system similar to photoshop where you can turn object on and off so here I just switch on and off my FBX my house that I've imported inside my project for the last part of the presentation I'm again going to switch to another project which is located the downtown Chicago it just to show you a bit more of the animation and the people that we are inside to emotion so I've been looking at two different project one midsize project one in nature and now I'm just going to switch two or more human project just crossing the bridge over here so as you can see here we are just near the Chicago Tribune as I told you here this project what I want to show you is how we created all those animation that is running all around the projects and to show you that I will actually start to remove all the existing animation that is currently in the projects for that I will open the same graph I have two way to add that I can manually select my path my animated paths but I will use my filter here to just show only the path here we'd select all my vehicle path and we just delete them all at once now that's done I can show you how we can create animation inside motion let's actually start with the library again videos here we start with the car if I want to add a car to my project just same thing as anything just basic drag and drop from the library to the viewport once the car is here I can change the color simple as that once I choose the color or I can just drag a couple of those cars on the side of my road for example but if I want to animate those vehicle actually it's different home you can find this tool in your urban section task and here we have four different type of pass let's start with the Vicker pass here I have a pen tool that will allow me just basically create a spline just create the spline in the middle of my Road on Cyril is my tool vehicles automatically start to drive along the pass and same thing as I told you before at the bottom of the screen I have different option my pass here is selected vehicle pass and here we can start for example just to change the line count I just switch to drill and as you can see here tree line are running on my road can even change the speed or the density of the vehicles so now just to quickly populate the other side of my road I will just here I have the selection gizmo of this path I will just press shift and duplicate this path on the other side of my road vehicle will start to spawn I will just click on reverse to make them drive in the other direction now we just change the small point here to make sure that the path is well aligned on my road yep just last point over here here we go so now everyone is running on the war road except for those guys that are running a bit on the sidewalk so as you can see just take me like one minute to create this full animation which could be really time-consuming in knowledge of software like 3ds max where you won't require quite a huge skill to create all those animation especially that here we have all the the wheel spinning we have some people that are actually in the child turning the wheels so this is how you create animation with the pass now let's switch to the characters so I'll come on this area here if you want to add some characters to the project or open back the library enter the character folder start with the human and if I want to drag a character same thing as anything just a basic drag-and-drop from the library to the viewport if I drag this character a multiple time the the color of the claws will change is the first option here it's random so hopefully we won't see any repetition if you are using the same character on multiple time then the second option will change the pose so maybe this character is in idle state maybe sitting maybe is lying maybe even dancing and even after you choose a pose you have a list of animation so maybe is doing these dance or maybe is doing the Gangnam style dance I can populate I can drag-and-drop character one at a time like this but looking at the side of this project it could be time-consuming this is why we also have some groups so for example if I select this group of three people at each time I will click in the viewport in motion will randomize to three character that are added to the project so again hopefully you won't see any repetition and you can really quickly bring more life to your project and finally the third way to add some characters is the same as the car using a pass so here same thing I will use my pen just to create a spline as you can see here there is already a couple of spline on my project so here just creating this quick spline here and again on Cyril is my tool character will start walking on the path and here I have a few options like changing the width of the path changing the density of people on it because there is quite a large amount of character sometimes it takes you take a few seconds to load all the people's so finally one of the late the last media that didn't talk about is actually to media that you can export out of commercial again weary top image and emotion we also have the panorama the panoramas just a basic 360 image of your project and a last minute I want to show is video so how to create a video is in three motion it's as simple as creating an image you just click on the create trip this will create a new clip with a first keyframe this is the starting point of the video then you simply need to move the camera inside the viewport you click on the plus it will create a second keyframe and to in motion automatically create the animation between the first keyframe and the second one there is nothing to do Friday it's completely automatic and here in just two clicks I've created this quick video I can change the time of the video by default it's ten-second but I can change to whatever I want and of course at again at any moment we can visualize the project during daylight like here but you can also switch to the night when you switch to the night the lights of the vehicle automatically lights up same as my light post and same as the lights on all the being linked on my context and same as my moon over here so I think that's it for this quick introduction to tree motion thanks again everyone for being here today wow that was amazing Martin thank   1. Do you plan to implement Direct Link for Sketchup, instead of Revit and Archicad ?
    Big advantage of Enscape is real-time link between that usefull and popular software…

  2. Just loaded it up. Problem is I use a Wacom to change viewing angles and its very sensitive. Be nice if there was a way to match the sensitivity to match the EU4 editor.
